About the subject

Understanding the Quran through translation

Many Muslims whose first language is not Arabic learn to recite the Quran long before they understand it. A translation course closes that gap by connecting the words you recite with their meaning in a language you know well.

A translation is a human attempt to convey the meaning of the Arabic; it cannot replace the original. That is why it is best studied alongside the Arabic text rather than instead of it. Different translations also choose different words for the same verse, and a teacher can explain what the Arabic carries that one English or Urdu word may not.

Learning the meaning can change how you experience the Quran in prayer. Verses that were once only sounds become reminders, promises and guidance that you recognise as you recite them.

Lessons are one-to-one in English or Urdu, so you can stop at any word or verse that is unclear and ask about it.
