About the subject

Building a foundation in Islam

Before going deeper into any area of Islamic study, every Muslim needs a clear grasp of the basics: what we believe, how we worship and how we should behave. That foundation is what this course is about.

Belief comes first. Muslims believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day and divine decree. Worship follows: the five pillars of Islam are the declaration of faith, prayer, zakah, fasting in Ramadan and Hajj for those who are able. Daily life is where these teachings become practical, in honesty, kindness and good manners towards others.

Learning these basics with a teacher means you can ask questions as they come up. It is common to practise parts of one’s faith for years without being sure of the reasons behind them, and a one-to-one lesson gives space to ask.

The course suits children learning for the first time, adults refreshing their knowledge and anyone beginning their journey in Islam.
