Learn to read the Quran correctly and fluently by applying the rules of Tajweed as you recite, with a teacher who corrects your pronunciation as you read.
In a one-to-one lesson, every verse you read is heard by your teacher.
Tajweed is the set of rules for reciting the Quran correctly: how each letter is pronounced, how long certain sounds are held, and how letters affect one another when they meet. The word comes from an Arabic root meaning to improve or to do something well.
The Quran was revealed to be recited, and Muslims have passed these rules on carefully from generation to generation. Correct recitation preserves each word as it was transmitted, and scholars treat avoiding clear mistakes that change the meaning as a duty for anyone who recites.
Tajweed is easiest to learn by listening and being corrected. A rule can be explained in one sentence, but noticing that you have shortened a sound or merged two letters that should stay separate usually needs a teacher’s ear. In a one-to-one lesson, every verse you read is heard by your teacher.
The goal is steady, fluent recitation in which the rules become natural rather than something you have to stop and think about.
