About the subject

What does memorising the Quran involve?

Hifz means memorising the Quran by heart. Someone who has memorised the whole Quran is called a hafiz (or hafiza). It is a long-term commitment.

New portions

Learning new portions of the Quran by heart, step by step.

Revision

Regularly revising earlier portions so they stay firm.

Accuracy

Memorising each word with correct pronunciation, which is why Hifz builds on fluent reading.
