It helps to be familiar with the translation of the passages you study.
If you are new to the meaning of the Quran, Quran Translation is a good first step.
About the subject
Tafseer (also written tafsir) is the explanation of the Quran. Where a translation tells you what a verse says, Tafseer helps you understand what it means: the circumstances in which it was revealed, how it relates to other verses, how the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions understood it, and the guidance it holds.
Scholars have written works of Tafseer for centuries, drawing on the Quran itself, the Sunnah, the Arabic language and the understanding of the early generations of Muslims. Studying with a teacher helps you approach this material in an organised way instead of piecing it together alone.
For many learners, Tafseer is where the Quran’s message becomes personal. A verse you have recited many times can take on new meaning once you know why it was revealed or what question it answered.
Lessons are one-to-one, so you can pause on a verse, ask questions and connect what you learn to your own life.
